My second first day as an intern

My first week as an intern was awesome. When I first met Mrs. Kimbrell who is my 1st grade mentor, she was very sweet and was excited about me being in her classroom for the rest of the school year. Walking into a classroom again for the second year felt really good because I had absolutely loved working with my students last year and I'm lucky to be at Holiday Heights again. The difference from last year to this year is with second graders, they were able to understand more complex concepts and they began to read chapter books and higher level books with the understanding of what they read. The teacher refused to let them check out little kid books because they would not learn anything from them. This year in my first grade classroom, the reading that they are doing are thing books and they have more pictures in them. They do not have as much knowledge on how to read bigger books because they are still learning words and how to pronounce them and understand what they mean. First graders are still learning the difference between capital and lowercase letters and how to write them and how to put the sounds together to create a word. Working with a lower grade is much more fun because they have more learning to do compared to a higher grade level where they are just learning what the TEKS say they have to learn. When I walk into Holiday Heights, I walk out to the playground to sit with Mrs. Kimbrell while the kids are playing and after 5 minutes, we walk back into the classroom to do reading and writing and when it's time for me to leave, they are headed o specials.
